According to the San Francisco Public Utilities Commission, biosolid compost comprises around 20 tons of the 82,000 tons of solid material removed from the city's sewer every year. The sludge goes to a composting facility where it is mixed with green waste and composted (heated to 130 degrees for 30 days.)
The San Francisco Chronical is reporting that a debate is going on over the safety of this biosolid compost.
